Restaining and color changes
Most decks need a fresh coat every 2-3 years, sooner if the old finish is a solid color that's started peeling or a semi-transparent stain that's gone gray and thin. Michigan staining concerns

Semi-transparent stains show wood grain and are easier to recoat, but they break down faster under UV and may need attention every 2 years on south-facing decks that get full sun most of the day.
